Puddle slimes can survive on land if exposed to a water spring. One will position itself perpendicularly over the sea floor mud fold its tail into an overhand knot and spasm itself quickly to push the knot down its body length and drive its tail into the mud. Seeing snake tracks laid out on the ground before you can be almost as exciting as seeing the animal itself.

Location may help you determine if you are looking at snake or bird droppings since snakes have access to many low closed spaces a bird could not reach.
