Can You Place Laminate Floor Over Tile
A big question is can a laminate floor be placed over a ceramic tile floor.
Can you place laminate floor over tile. Can laminate flooring be installed over ceramic tile. Finally the factory finish of laminate flooring is more durable than just about any finish a hardwood flooring refinisher can put on a hardwood floor at a job site. Since you must level either type of subfloor before laying tile if you decide that you want to replace a tile floor with laminate flooring you won t need to do as much work to make sure the floor sits level. This isn t to say you can install laminate over every tile floor.
This can be corrected with the transition strip. Since this type of flooring is put into place using interlocking sections and sealed at the ends with glue to create a moisture resistant seal along joints you can walk on a laminate floor the next day as opposed to waiting three or four days after installing a traditional hardwood or tile floor. Laminate flooring goes very well over ceramic tiles. Some conditions apply but most are easily addressed.
Both tile and laminate flooring planks can be installed over wood or concrete subfloors. When some of the tiles are loose chipped or broken. The process would be the same as installing a laminate floor on a concrete slab. There will be a height difference to the adjoining floor.
One situation however does require more work and may call for removal of the tile. It is a thin solid flooring system that doesn t require adhesive and comes with a padded underlayment that helps smooth out any contour from the ceramic. What that means is that over time you can possibly have your vinyl floor tiles popping up or having issues even if you applied extra adhesive to them. Fortunately the answer to the question is yes.
Another issue is where the laminate stops at the edge of the ceramic. You can see at the doorway with the laminate on top of the ceramic tile it creates a higher. In this photo to the left i installed laminate tile over the ceramic tile.
