Can You Use Mineral Oil On Wood Floors
Never use mineral oil on floors with a polyurethane finish or any varnish to prevent damage.
Can you use mineral oil on wood floors. Wood should be sanded until it develops a shine. Add a second application of mineral oil when the wood is dry. To minimize damage never clean the floor with water. Do not use mineral or petroleum oil to clean hardwood floors finished with polyurethane or varnish as they can damage the finish.
Mineral oil is also used to condition wood and is great to use on butcher blocks wooden counter tops and a variety of furniture. Mineral oil produces a very natural looking finish to wood and it is well liked because of its non toxic properties. Specialty products such as butcher block oil are available for purchase but they are merely mineral oil in fancy packages with high prices. It can be used to clean eradicate dryness and to facilitate enemas.
It should be noted however that the added durability provided by factory applied urethane finishes does not apply to pre applied natural oil finishes. One of the only negative issue with using mineral oil as a wood finish is that it must be re applied periodically because it does not provide as strong of a finish as other types of wood coatings. Alternate between oil application and sandpaper until a suitable satin finish is achieved. After applying the mineral oil let it soak in then use a fine grit sandpaper on the wood.
