Can You Wax Hardwood Floors Sealed With Polyurethane
Wipe up spills as soon as they occur with a water dampened cloth then wipe dry.
Can you wax hardwood floors sealed with polyurethane. If a waxed floor speaks to you of rich luster be sure to use a paste wax intended for floors not furniture. Modern hardwood floors are generally finished with a polyurethane or acrylic coating unless a different finish is requested for while older hardwood floors may be unfinished and only stained they have no surface seal or protective film. The primary issue with sealing hardwood floors is that while you can seal the top surface of the wood you can t reliably seal the seams or joints between the floor boards or planks. Avoid wet mopping large areas of the waxed hardwood floor with water.
The hardwood floors being installed in homes today are almost all coated with polyurethane which makes the floors a little different than older floors that are mostly finished with sealers and wax. You also find the phrase used in instructions for steam mops which by the way should never be used on wood flooring of any type. Without a protective coating of polyurethane urethane or other top coats the unsealed wood readily absorbs. It pays to know what type of finish your hardwood flooring is coated with to ensure that you are cleaning it appropriately.
In some cases applying a coat of paste wax is the best way to hide scratches and worn spots on your floor and it may extend the life of your somewhat worn polyurethane finish.
